My name is Caitlin, pronounced the Gaelic way, Cait-LEEN. I'm seventeen years old and have been homeschooled all my life. My interests include:
Acting: I have performed in lots of plays with Homeschool Theatre Troupe (HTT), and one with Young People's Theatre (YPT). Most recently I played he role of Mr. Stryver in A Tale of Two Cities, also with HTT. I was Stage Manager for The Phantom Tollbooth with in June 2005. My favorite role so far was Malvolio in Twelfth Night because he is my complete opposite, but being pompous as Stryver was a fun challenge, too.
Writing Fiction: Which I haven't done very much of, but I discovered I really enjoy it. I've even written some poetry, something I never thought I'd do.
Reading: Most well written books, but particularly historical fiction and fantasy books. I am just getting into "soft sci-fi," though. Some of my favorite authors are Tamora Pierce, Ann Rinaldi, Sherwood Smith, and Celia Rees. I also like the Inheritance trilogy, The Hollow Kingdom Trilogy, Bloody Jack Adventures, and TONS of others. The magazine I read the most often is Teen Voices.
Animals: Though cats are my favorite. I clean cages and play with the cats at the Luv-a-Pet center with Last Chance Animal Rescue (LCAR) and Pet Assistance League (PAL) at a local pet store every Sunday. I have my own cat, Viva (Italian for "it lives" or Spanish for "I live"), who is certainly very lively and needs a lot of attention. I love her to death (even though my feet constantly have scratches on them because of her jumping on them to wake me up in the morning).
Writing Reviews: For some reason I'm a little obsessed--maybe because I love to share what I like--so I created a blog, The Magic of Ink, where I can recommend books and movies to my heart's content.
Collecting Push Puppets, but only the wooden ones. I had a display of them and pantins (better known as jumping jacks) in the display case at Potomac Library. And one just for push puppets in 2004 called Cait's Critters because I have over 100 now.
Baking: Apple dumpling muffins and crumbles, though now I'm getting good enough that my mom's asking me to make them all the time for events. I don't really mind except when she tells everyone and they say, "These are just WONDERFUL" and go on and on about it when it's really not that amazing.
